Shudder is set to premiere the next chapter in its holiday horror anthology with The Haunted Season: The Occupant of the Room arriving on December 1. The film continues creator Kier-La Janisse’s exploration of ghost stories told during the winter season, a long-standing tradition reflected in both literature and folklore.

The Occupant of the Room adapts Algernon Blackwood’s classic tale of a schoolteacher who finds himself at a secluded hotel in the Alps after arriving late and without a reservation. With no other options, he agrees to take the room belonging to a missing guest. What follows is a long night marked by unsettling events that raise questions about the fate of the room’s previous occupant.

This release marks the second entry in The Haunted Season anthology series, following Janisse’s 2024 film To Fire You Come At Last, which is currently available to stream on Shudder. Each December, a new installment will join the series, reinforcing Shudder’s commitment to reviving and expanding the tradition of winter ghost storytelling.
