Who said horror had to be all spooky houses and chainsaw wielding psychos? Some of the most horrifying stories are stories that lie in the annals of history. Vlad the Impaler was one of the most violent figures in history. This 15th century military commander earned his name by impaling enemies on spikes, leaving them to die. So by comparison, that chainsaw wielding psycho sounds more like a playground bully. Now this truthfully gruesome tale is being re-told through the eyes of film. Synopsis: In the middle of the 15th century, in the depths of Turkey during the Ottoman Empire, the land is torn apart by horrendous atrocities and bloody murders are inflicted against the terrified people by the cruel and blood-thirsty, Vlad the Impaler. The ruler, Baba Sultan, orders a group of seven fearless warriors known as Deliler, to hunt down Vlad and end the persecution once and for all. The seven heroes set out on their long journey, stopping at nothing until they find the inhumane Vlad and defeat him in what will be a battle to end all battles…
If you are a fan of all things medieval and dark then this may be the film for you. The trailer boasts one long montage of a middle age battle. Swords clank, muscular bearded men scream and run in slow motion, but there are additional layers at play. Why did Vlad slaughter an entire village except for one child? He didn’t get his name “Impaler” by letting folks slide on things, regardless of age or gender. And how true is the retelling of this very real tale? I myself being a fan of historical films, believe that the fact that this film is based on one of the most famous (or infamous) characters from the Middle Ages only adds to the intrigue and entertainment factor.
