Art Show! with Captain Skinner Blends Body Horror and Comedy in New Animated A new genre-bending series is preparing to take viewers into deep space with paintbrush in hand. Art Show! with Captain Skinner, a 10-episode animated project, follows the chaotic production of a fictional PBS-style art program set aboard a spacecraft where nearly everything that can go wrong does. Each roughly 15-minute episode centers on Skinner as he attempts to create original artwork while contending with cosmic hazards, intrusive thoughts, and the challenges of producing television far from Earth.
Co-created by artist and performer Skinner alongside writer-director Allen Cordell, the series combines slapstick comedy, body horror, and vivid animation into what is described as a futuristic homage to classic instructional programs like The Joy of Painting. Skinner, known for his work across music, murals, comics, and commercial media, brings his distinct visual sensibility to the project, while Cordell contributes a background in music videos and short-form filmmaking.
The series is produced by independent animation company ETCH, led by Philip Gelatt, Will Battersby, and Morgan Galen King, a team recognized for projects that lean into inventive and unconventional storytelling.
