Universal Pictures and Blumhouse are set to release Black Phone 2 in theaters on October 17, reuniting audiences with one of modern horror’s most unsettling figures.

The story picks up four years after Finn (Mason Thames) escaped captivity by killing his abductor, The Grabber. Now 17, Finn is still coping with the trauma of survival while his younger sister, Gwen (Madeleine McGraw), begins to receive disturbing phone calls in her dreams. The calls bring visions of three boys stalked at Alpine Lake, a remote winter camp.

Ethan Hawke returns as The Grabber, who continues to haunt Finn and Gwen with newfound power beyond death. As the siblings travel to Alpine Lake during a storm, Gwen discovers a link between their family’s past and the killer’s resurgence. The mystery forces both to confront a force stronger and more personal than they expected.

The sequel comes from writer-director Scott Derrickson, again collaborating with C. Robert Cargill, based on characters created by Joe Hill. Producers include Jason Blum, Derrickson, and Cargill, with executive producers Ryan Turek, Adam Hendricks, Daniel Bekerman, and Jason Blumenfeld.

The cast features returning performances from Jeremy Davies as Finn and Gwen’s father, Terrence, along with new additions Demián Bichir, Arianna Rivas, Miguel Mora, Maev Beaty, and Graham Abbey.

Following the success of The Black Phone in 2022—which earned over $160 million worldwide—this sequel expands on the mythology of The Grabber while continuing the story of Finn and Gwen.
