Critically acclaimed creator Stjepan Šejić (Sunstone, Harleen, Witchblade) is returning to his beloved supernatural series with Death Vigil (2026) #1, kicking off an all-new story arc this August from Image Comics and Top Cow Productions. Issue #1 hits comic book shops on August 5, 2026.

The series puts a darkly comic spin on death itself: bad news, you’re dead — good news, you can join a band of Death Knights and spend your afterlife fighting necromancers and cosmic horror. You’ll get a spirit weapon, a team of unlikely allies, and a front-row seat to an eternal war between Good and Evil against the ravenous Primordial Enemy. The pay isn’t great. The co-workers are unforgettable.

The original Death Vigil earned a devoted following for its rare ability to balance genuine cosmic horror with warmth and heart — and Šejić knows exactly what’s at stake with this return.

“When I made the first story arc of this series, I was a no-name artist trying to establish myself as not just an artist but a writer as well,” he says. “These days many of you know the caliber of storytelling I bring to the table. Let us together now realize it. This is the second story arc. If you like it, get loud about it — because without you there may not be a third one for a long time. And trust me… you want the third, the fourth, and the fifth one.”

Matt Hawkins, President and COO at Top Cow, is equally enthusiastic: “There aren’t many books that can balance cosmic horror, action, and genuine heart the way Death Vigil does. It’s also my personal favorite of all of Stjepan’s work. He has a unique voice, and this return doesn’t just pick up where things left off — it raises the bar.”

Death Vigil (2026) #1 will be available in six cover variants (including covers by Sozomaika and Mirka Andolfo) at comic book shops and on digital platforms including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play beginning August 5.
