The Horror Collective has picked up worldwide rights to Fresh Meat, a Canadian horror feature from writer/director Daniel Turres, with Studio Dome set to launch international sales at the Cannes Film Market.

Fresh Meat follows a group of internet influencers who break into an abandoned prison to create content, only to inadvertently unleash a ravenous inmate who has been waiting a long time for visitors. Trapped inside and fighting for their lives, the group finds themselves capturing their terrifying ordeal — whether they want to or not.

Turres wrote and directed the 2025 feature from his own script, producing alongside Christian Turres. Executive producers Sheila Warren and David Carruthers round out the production team through Fresh Meat Films Inc. The cast includes Joelle Farrow, Mika Amonsen, Tyson Wong, Hannah Galway, Jorja Cadence, Alex Sands, and Douglas Vermeeren.

The film made its festival debut at Blood in the Snow, where it won Best Special Effects from The Butchershop FX Studio and left an impression on the programming team. “Fresh Meat is by far the most violent film we have ever played,” said Kelly Michael Stewart, Festival Director and Founder.

Turres described the film’s concept as rooted in contemporary anxieties: “Fresh Meat taps into our current obsession with content creation and asks what happens when the pursuit of viral fame becomes a matter of life and death. The abandoned prison setting creates this claustrophobic nightmare where escape feels impossible.”

David Josh Lawrence, Acquisitions at Studio Dome, noted the fit with The Horror Collective’s mission: “Fresh Meat fits perfectly with The Horror Collective’s mission to bring fresh voices in horror to audiences worldwide. Daniel has crafted a film that speaks to our social media age while delivering the scares genre fans expect.”

The Horror Collective is the genre label of Studio Dome, home to titles including the cult killer-pants favorite SLAXX (a Shudder Original) and The Death of Snow White. The label also operates BloodStream, its dedicated horror streaming service.

No domestic release date has been announced. Stay tuned to The Horror Collective for updates as the film moves through Cannes market.
