Following its acclaimed premiere at SXSW, Hood Witch is set for a theatrical and VOD release on March 21, 2025. The debut feature from French director Saïd Belktibia presents a cautionary narrative that explores the dangers of unregulated digital platforms, social media, and underground economies.
Starring Iranian-French actress Golshifteh Farahani (Extraction, Body of Lies), Hood Witch follows Nour, a single mother supporting her son through the illicit trade of exotic animals and rare goods. Hoping to secure a better future, she develops a mobile app connecting users with marabouts—West African spiritual guides. When a consultation takes a tragic turn, Nour is thrust into a violent conflict that threatens both her life and her son’s.
Farahani, known for her work in Hollywood productions and advocacy for Iranian women’s rights, takes on a complex role that blends survival, ambition, and moral dilemmas. Belktibia, working alongside co-writer Louis Penicaut, crafts a narrative that highlights the unintended consequences of technology and commerce in an increasingly interconnected world.
With its mix of suspense and social commentary, Hood Witch aims to engage audiences in discussions about power, exploitation, and resilience. The film will be available in theaters and on digital platforms beginning March 21, 2025.
