“If this gene is in your DNA, you will commit a violent crime”. In the tradition of Dominion and The Mortal Instruments, and from director Jenni Ivers (The Cabin) comes the sci-fi thrill-ride Loophole, premiering on VOD January 8, 2019 from High Octane Pictures.

Synopsis: The gene for violence is discovered, setting off demand for worldwide testing, promoting the belief that these people will commit a violent crime. College student Lexi Smith finds herself in the middle of a collision between science and religion where all of humanity hangs in the balance. She may hold the key to the battle vs. good and evil but what will it cost her?

Loophole - Trailer

The concept really grabbed my attention. The premise that evil can be genetically detected is really interesting and highlights the human fascination with the capacity of evil we carry and the capability with which some people harness that evil. As the trailer progressed I was filled with some skepticism. The special effects seemed a little lacking, and some of the acting snippets weren’t all that great. The inclusion of a person who can potentially “fix” the issue of the evil gene seems a bit like a cop-out. But the concept itself is captivating enough to have convinced me to give the film a chance.

Chloe Lukasiak (Center Stage: On Pointe), Kera O’Bryon and Bubba Ho-Tep’s Timothy E. Goodwin star in a Jenni Ivers film. Can evil be scientifically measured? Do only certain people possess the capability of committing violent crime? Or is there a loophole? Loophole will have its North American release on January 8 on VOD.
