Universal Studios Hollywood has released the first official image of Xanathar, the iconic beholder from Dungeons & Dragons, alongside his pet goldfish Sylgar, ahead of the debut of Secrets of Waterdeep—a new in-world experience launching at Universal Fan Fest Nights on Friday, April 25, 2025.
The fully articulated Xanathar was created in collaboration with Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, known for its longstanding work in puppetry, animatronics, and digital animation. The installation places guests inside a live-action storyline where they join the Harpers, a secretive spy network, in a mission to stop Xanathar and protect the city of Waterdeep.
Dungeons & Dragons: Secrets of Waterdeep is part of the larger Universal Fan Fest Nights, running on select evenings—April 25–27; May 2–4, 9–11, and 15–18. The after-hours event includes immersive activations inspired by sci-fi, fantasy, anime, and gaming properties such as Star Trek, Back to the Future, ONE PIECE, and Jujutsu Kaisen.
Themed cuisine curated by Executive Chef Julia Thrash, exclusive merchandise, and cosplay opportunities will be available throughout the event. Guests can also enjoy special enhancements within The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™ and SUPER NINTENDO WORLD™, along with appearances by characters from Wicked, including Elphaba and Glinda.
In addition to the in-world experiences, guests will have after-hours access to select attractions such as Jurassic World – The Ride, Mario Kart™: Bowser’s Challenge, Revenge of the Mummy: The Ride, and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey™.
