After more than forty years out of circulation, the long-lost slasher Silent Death will return to the big screen this fall thanks to Terror Vision. The film, directed by Vaughn Christion, originally premiered in 1981 with only a handful of local screenings in New Jersey and New York before vanishing into obscurity.

Efforts to secure distribution at the time fell short, leaving only a few VHS copies in existence. Over time, many horror fans doubted the film’s very existence. Terror Vision, however, tracked down the original 35mm negative but faced a major obstacle—the audio was missing. Years of searching eventually led to one of the rare VHS copies containing the original soundtrack, making a full restoration possible.

Now fully restored in 4K, Silent Death is ready for rediscovery. The film will make its (re)premiere at Beyond Fest on Saturday, October 4th, 10pm PST at the Los Feliz 3 Theatre. Tickets will be available beginning September 11 at 10am PST.

The film features performances from David Arts, Freddy James, Natalie Carter, and Doyle Ray Taylor. Notably, Silent Death is believed to be the earliest slasher directed by a Black filmmaker, predating Axe ’Em (The Weekend It Lives) by more than a decade. This restoration not only revives a lost piece of horror cinema but also reshapes the historical timeline of the genre.
