The Miskatonic Institute of Horror Studies is proud to present Mark Jancovich’s class “The Paranoid Woman’s Film“, which will explore the unique genre of film that chronicled women falling for murderous men. The class will take place on March 7th at The Horse Hospital at 7pm.

Lecturer and author Mark Jancovich will introduce students to the horror films of the 1940s through those films often described as examples of the paranoid (or Gothic) woman’s film. These films, which emerged in response to the phenomenal success of Hitchcock’s Rebecca, feature a woman in love with a potential murderous lover. Jancovich will also use Joan Fontaine’s Jane Eyre, Robert Siodmak’s Phantom Lady and Val Lewton’s Cat People as key references,and examine how the genre is related to both film noir.
