Vertical has acquired North American rights to Recluse, the Tribeca Festival horror debut from writer/director Henry Chaisson (Servant, Antlers), and will release it theatrically in the first half of 2027.

Recluse follows Joan (Sasha Frolova, The Empty Man), who begins hearing mysterious audio recordings tied to her mother’s disappearance years earlier after a fire leaves her estranged father injured. Returning home to piece together her mother’s final days, Joan discovers the vanishing is woven into a larger tapestry of tragedy that has haunted her family. The closer she gets to the truth, the harder someone else fights to keep it buried.

Frolova is joined by Xander Berkeley (The Walking Dead, 24), Toby Poser (Hell Hole), Mia Vallet (Hightown), Kimball Farley (Mouse), and Frankie Seratch (The Obelisk). Steven Schneider of Spooky Pictures (Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Split) executive produced. The film premiered at Tribeca, earning a 92 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, and has since played Fantasia and FrightFest.

“Recluse gets under your skin, then claws its way back out. Oh, and it leaves a scar,” said Schneider. “Henry Chaisson delivers the goods for Vertical, which has quietly become a new home for high-quality horror.”

Recluse is a co-production between Points North and Restricted Pictures, who are currently in post on the genre project Night After Night. Tony Piantedosi and Rachel White negotiated for Vertical, and Mike Chapman of Blue Finch Films represented the filmmakers.

Recluse arrives in U.S. and Canadian theaters in the first half of 2027. A specific date has not been announced.
