The lights are out, the volume is up, and you settle in as the story begins to unfold. In the grand tradition of the atmospheric radio dramas like Inner-Sanctum or The CBS Radio Hour, comes the all-new, Shudder The Series. Focused the auditory aspects of things that go bump in the night, Shudder will offer the old-school approach of an audio play but with a modern twist.
“Each episode stars one actor who tells their tale from a first-person perspective,” says show creator and award-winning filmmaker, Mark Bessenger (Bite Marks, Ninja Zombie, and the upcoming Confessions). Bessenger continues, “The installments will be enhanced with some music cues, sound effects and visual imagery that play into the tone of the piece with the sole intention of creeping out the listener.”
Produced by Thrillsville Productions the new web series will be launching April 1st, 2016 on the series’ official YouTube channel. Shudder: The Series will also feature an ensemble of familiar horror genre talent lending their fiendish abilities and vocal talents. The first season, written by Bessenger, will set the standard and tone for further episodes with new writers and talent planed for upcoming seasons.
The initial seven episodes include:
1. “Crucifixion” performed by Stephen Twardokus (AN AMERICAN GHOST STORY)
2. “Puddy” performed by Eric Dean (GEORGE: A ZOMBIE INTERVENTION)
3. “Night Terrors” performed by Caitlyn Marie Wagner
4. “Stuck” performed by Jon Cahill (BLOODY BLOODY BIBLE CAMP)
5. “The Tune” performed by Steven Richards (WEREWOLVES IN HEAT)
6. “Second Floor Walkup” performed by a mystery guest.
7. “The Wraith of Mossy Rock” performed by Kieran Biggs (CONFESSIONS)
Planning for more morbidity and horrific fun, the talent that is already signed on for future episodes includes: Peter Stickles (Cemetery Gates), Michael Varrati (Tales of Poe), Sarah Nicklin (The Sins of Dracula), Michael McKelligon (You’re Killing Me), David Alanson Bradberry (Bite Marks), Dana Kjeldsen (Costigan Bloch), Joseph Graham (Edward), Randy Frank (The Peripheral), Jackson Palmer (The Daughter), and Dudley Beene (First Period).
As with every wonderful horror anthology there is a great theme and a creepy host. Just as the Crypt needs its Cryptkeeper, each episode of Shudder: The Series features opening title narration from actorstar of hit horror series Dante’s Cove. The series also features an ethereal and haunting opening theme, composed by Hollywood music icon, Rossano Galante (Avengers: Age of Ultron, Gods of Egypt, Bite Marks). Take a listen to this opening intro…
“Shudder: the Series needed a distinctive opening theme, something that generated fear, dread and desperation,” Bessenger says of pairing with Galante, “Rossano understands cinema, and particularly, the music that accompanies my fictional worlds. We ‘get’ each other. He is a true artist whose musical style compliments my images.”
With an army of seasoned horror voices, an acclaimed composer contributing to its audio landscape, and Charlie David acting as the creepy host whispering nightmarish narration, Shudder: The Series promises a uniquely fun experience in fright. You’re not just hearing things. That’s definitely isn’t the wind. It’s Shudder: The Series.
