The project captures the seniors tackling every aspect of production, from crafting DIY special effects on a limited budget to managing on-set drama. In the process, the documentary highlights how creativity and passion thrive at any age, while challenging traditional stereotypes of senior life.

“Sean Cisterna took an unconventional path and found gold—Silver Screamers is a charming, life-affirming film that proves passion and creativity don’t age,” said Annick Mahnert, Fantastic Fest’s director of programming. “By handing the camera to seniors, he’s crafted a film that’s as inspiring as it is heartwarming.”

Cisterna added, “It’s a thrill to have Silver Screamers make its debut at the biggest genre festival in the U.S. There’s no better launchpad for a film that’s equal parts heart and horror.”

Silver Screamers is both a behind-the-scenes chronicle and a celebration of turning so-called “senior moments” into standout cinematic ones.
