Different Day Pictures has announced that Danny Trejo (Machete, From Dusk Till Dawn) will lend his voice to Stoned Inn, an independent horror comedy made by Kansas filmmakers. Trejo plays Meowchette, a feline and the film’s most unusual character.

Directed by the duo of Key Tawn Toothman and Naythan Smith, Stoned Inn turns the haunted house subgenre on its head. A thoroughly burned-out stoner enters a high-stakes contest to spend seven nights inside a supposedly haunted, newly renovated house. What begins as an easy way to cash in spirals into chaos as the nights tick down and the house proves far stranger and more dangerous than advertised.

Maximum James and Jessa Jupiter Flux lead the ensemble cast. Martial arts fans can also look for a cameo from Chris Casamassa, known for his work associated with the Mortal Kombat franchise.

Toothman is a Wichita, Kansas, filmmaker whose previous work includes the horror comedy A Very Flattened Christmas and the documentary My Day with Shelley. Stoned Inn marks his feature directorial debut. The filmmakers describe the project as a regional, DIY production built on practical indie horror grit.

Production details, festival screening dates, and the official trailer are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.
