Mark O’Brien’s supernatural horror film The Voices of Our Mother is heading to Shudder on June 19, 2026. Written, directed, and starring O’Brien — whose debut feature The Righteous landed on Rotten Tomatoes’ list of the top 100 horror films of 2022 — the film promises the kind of intimate, dread-soaked family dynamics that genre fans have been craving.’
The Voices of Our Mother centers on Harriet Scaflen, who survives an unexplainable health scare following the death of her 95-year-old mother. The crisis draws her four estranged children back to the family home, where long-buried animosities and secrets begin surfacing. What starts as a tense family reunion takes a darker turn when it becomes clear that their mother’s ailment may be something far beyond the medical — and that whatever has awakened inside her is looking for revenge.
O’Brien leads the cast alongside Sheila McCarthy, Georgina Reilly, Carolina Bartczak, Alex Ozerov-Meyer, and Anna Ferguson. The film is produced by Christopher Giroux and Justin Rebelo, with executive producers Jesse Ikeman, Nataline Rodrigues, and Bill Marks. Director of photography Scott McClellan shot the 93-minute feature.
O’Brien has demonstrated a sharp instinct for quiet, character-driven horror — his follow-up projects since The Righteous include The Voices of Our Mother and the horror comedy Nice People, starring Sosie Bacon and Chloe Bennet.
