North Hollywood’s beloved horror and experimental theater venue Zombie Joe’s Underground Theatre Group is hosting a special two-night pop-up event this weekend: the ALCHEMICAL SOUND BATH EXPERIENCE ~ A Sonic Ritual for Beautiful Disasters, presented by sound practitioner Cimcie Nichols on Friday, May 8, and Saturday, May 9, with sessions at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. each night.

The experience is exactly what it sounds like — and then some. Participants lie down in ZJU’s characteristically atmospheric space and are bathed in live instrument frequencies as Nichols guides them through the session using Alchemy Crystal Bowls infused with precious metals and a Grotta Sonora Deep Gong handmade in an Etruscan cave in Italy. Each 45-minute journey is designed to carry you into the abyss and back. Spooky friends encouraged.

Zombie Joe’s Underground has been a fixture of the Los Angeles horror and immersive entertainment scene since the 1990s, known for its fearless experimental productions and its long-running URBAN DEATH haunt series. This sound bath is a quieter — though no less atmospheric — offering from the ZJU universe, and it fits right in with the venue’s ongoing commitment to experiences that blur the line between performance, ritual, and dread.

The event is open to all ages and is wheelchair accessible. Attendees are encouraged to bring a yoga mat, pillow, and sleeping mask for comfort; chairs are also available for those who prefer to sit. Avoid heavy meals beforehand. Your nervous system will thank you.

Advance tickets are $20 at ZombieJoes.TIX.com; $25 at the door. ZJU Theatre Group is located at 4850 Lankershim Boulevard, North Hollywood, CA 91601. More at zombiejoes.com and urbandeath.com.
