I read once that the reason Jordan Peele is such an effective horror filmmaker after being in comedy so long is that horror and comedy are really two sides of the same coin. Both typically follow a formula of setup -> punchline, and this is especially apparent in short horror films, which often tend to be darkly comedic in some way. Noah A. Waters and Assia Lau’ren’s Relationship Killers is a perfect example of this.

Bedegraine (Lexsy McKowen) and Bravien (Assia Lau’ren) have hit a rough patch in their relationship. Bedegraine is too much of a perfectionist. Bravien is too laid back. Sometimes they just want to kill each other. Really kill each other. For this reason, they agree to try couple’s therapy. But their idea of couple’s therapy is a little different than most…

Like pretty much all of us here at HorrorBuzz, I’m always here for queer romance in my horror, and the relationship struggles of Bedegraine and Bravien feel very realistic. Mckowen and Lau’ren have excellent chemistry together and carry the film very well. The ten-minute runtime of the film is exactly the right amount of time to tell the story, which can be a fine line to walk. I’m giving a round of applause to everyone who made it work. Bravo, brava, bravissime, as they say.

Valentine’s Day may be over, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t grab that special someone (if you’ve got them. Personally, I watched this in the company of my pillow pet), cuddle up together, and watch Relationship Killers. It’s precisely the right sort of rom-com.
