Right now, horror is booming in the real-world experiences sector. Perhaps thanks to an upswing in strong horror outings at the box office and on platforms like Shudder, more and more people are looking for horror experiences and events all year round. It’s not just an October craving to be given a fright anymore! Entering the fray is, perhaps, the biggest in terms of IPs in play, with Universal Horror Unleashed now open in Las Vegas.

Universal Monsters Haunted House at Universal Horror Unleashed

Universal Horror Unleashed in Las Vegas is made up of four distinct “houses of undying thrills”. Each has its own set of live-entertainment horrors ready to bring the nightmare-makers of famed movies and stories to life. Universal Monsters features classics from the Universal catalogue, like The Mummy, Count Dracula, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon.

From there, you can walk through the dark, shifty Midwestern cornfield and hope that you don’t get caught out in Scarecrow: The Reaping. If that wasn’t enough, you can step into the world of demonic possession in Blumhouse’s The Exorcist: Believer, where you walk through the house of the classic film, trying not to get thrown off by the twitching shadows. Finally, will you be able to escape the madman in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre experience?

As well as these dim-lit walks punctuated by flashing lights, hidey-holes, and plenty of jump scares, the massive Las Vegas warehouse also has other immersive themed areas to explore, as well as an in-theme food and drinks menu. Assuming that all goes well in Las Vegas, there will be a second location for Universal Horror Unleashed opening in Chicago in 2027, making the immersive experience that bit more accessible for everyone on the East Coast.

Why Las Vegas for Universal Horror Unleashed?

Las Vegas isn’t exactly the place you’d associate with the horror genre. Generally, it’s more commonly tied to casino gaming and nightlife entertainment. As a brand, Las Vegas is all glitz and glamour, as shown across the myriad of online games that look to appeal through its world-renowned persona. When you play classic slots online for real money, you’ll spot Vegas Diamonds, Slot Vegas Fully Loaded MegaQuads, Vegas Megaways, and more, showing Vegas’ historic connection to casino.

All of these classic slots lean into the classic aesthetic and persona of Sin City – bright lights, big wins, humming neon colours, and lavish settings. However, casino gaming and classic slots are just part of what Las Vegas wants to be known for. It continues to strive to be the entertainment capital of the world, which is why it has so many world-class artists take up residencies and has pulled in major league sports teams.

Universal Horror Unleashed looks to be another way to diversify the total offering, making Sin City all the more appealing to potential visitors. Las Vegas does have some fleeting ties to the horror genre, such as through the cancelled would-be franchise of Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, Hostel: Part III, Fright Night, and Leprechaun 3, but this experience is all about immersing patrons in the scares of true classics.

Universal Horror Unleashed has finally creaked its doors open in Las Vegas, offering yet another diverse entertainment attraction in Sin City!
