As if your Netflix queue wasn’t already long enough, the mega streaming service is releasing a new original movie, titled Fractured, October 11th, 2019. Directed by psychological-thriller extraordinaire, Brad Anderson (Session 9, The Machinist), the film’s all-star cast includes Sam Worthington (James Cameron’s Avatar series), Lily Rabe (American Horror Story), Stephen Tobolowsky (Spaceballs), and Adjoa Andoh (Invictus).
Synopsis: Driving home after a tense holiday weekend with his in-laws, Ray Monroe (Sam Worthington), a well-meaning but overwhelmed family man, pulls into a rest area with his wife Joanne (Lily Rabe) and daughter Peri (Lucy Capri). The trip takes a turn for the worse when Peri is hurt in an accident and the family rushes to a nearby emergency room run by a staff with dubious intentions. After being sent away for further testing Peri and Joanne vanish and all records of their visit disappear. Ray’s concern turns into a desperate race to find his family and discover the truth of what happened to them.
Fractured looks like it could be an intense, heart-racing, and heart-wrenching film. With Sam Worthington at the helm of the cast, who has made a name for himself in fantasy action films like the sci-fi epic Avatar (2009) and the monster-bash Clash of the Titans (2010), I’m sure this psychological-thriller will have a heavy dose of action as Worthington’s Ray Monroe character goes on a fervent search for his beloved wife and daughter. And perhaps maybe his fractured mind after an accident? In that sense, it will probably be a little like Taken (2008)… or Changeling (2008)… or Flightplan (2005)… or The Forgotten (2004)… or the many other films with this disappearance premise and the ensuing cerebral aspect of the remaining family member suddenly seeming like a crazy, unbelievable person (especially when there are sinister parties at play, as the trailer illudes of the hospital workers), but despite this, since Fractured is a Netflix production I trust that the quality will be great with a high rewatch value; although this oft recycled premise could be a sign of them beginning to rest on their laurels.
If he can’t trust the hospital workers whom can he trust? Can he even trust himself?
