Australian filmmaker Richard E. Williams will debut his new horror feature Dead Eyes at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas. The film will have its World Premiere on March 12 as part of the festival’s Visions section, which highlights distinctive works from emerging and established filmmakers.
Written and directed by Williams, Dead Eyes presents its story through a first-person perspective using a custom head-mounted Sony VENICE Rialto camera system. The approach places viewers directly inside the narrative as the film explores themes of grief, identity, and the consequences of attempting to reverse death.
The story follows Sean and his fiancée Grace as they enter a remote forest searching for Sean’s missing father. His disappearance comes after the death of Sean’s younger sister, Lilly, and their search soon uncovers disturbing experiments intended to bring her back. In the forest, they encounter a series of mutated clones of Lilly—each competing to prove she is the original.
The film stars Mischa Heywood, Ana Thu Nguyen, Stephen Phillips, Charles Cottier, and Alea O’Shea, with additional performances by Rijen Laine.
