When Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights opens on both coasts, each will feature a house based on the new film Evil Dead Burn. The latest entry in the Evil Dead franchise, the haunted house places guests inside the film’s terrifying events as they make their way through the Price family’s isolated vacation home. Universal Studios Hollywood invited press to come take a tour of the house that is still under construction as the barrell toward opening night. Universal Orlando Resort has already opened its hellish gates and Universal Studios Hollywood, will open on September 3.

We met with Creative Director ,Halloween Horror Nights, John Murdy in front of the new house. He points out that this is the first time that they have done an entrance like this. What makes it unique is that is two seperate scenes from the film on either side of the path as we enter with the gazebo to the left and the infamous car accident to the right.

Murdy pointed out that they literally had to buy a car that matched the make, model and color from the one in the film. Then he had to art direct a handful of people with sledgehammers to match the wreckage from the movie. Details folks!

As we wander further into the mayhem we spot an Easter egg for long-time Evil Dead fans.

We round a corner and Murdy vanished to a backstage. He emerges in a small scene that features the  spot where he operates  The puppet of Deadite Max.

We arrive at the Price Family home and, of course, all hell is breaking loose.

We enter the threshold and are met with Poor Polly who is stuck in the stairway here.

Around the corner we meet up with Thya, complete with headrest through her jaw.

Again, I have to point out the detail. While there will be a particularly gory scene with an actor happening just to the right, we get the set of a full kitchen.

We run into Polly again and this time she’s in a bathtub. I am sorry but there isn’t really a way to wash that out dear.

We enter one of the finale scenes where we will witness a dining room on fire. This will be acheived with lighting, digital projections and, I am certain, the smell of burning wood.

The house ends with a harrowing escape through the forest and one final moment featuring an actor and this figure below. Again smoke and projection mapping will enhance the moment.

Since its debut in 1981, the Evil Dead franchise has become known for its blend of supernatural horror, graphic gore, and dark humor. Evil Dead Burn continues that legacy, providing the inspiration for Halloween Horror Nights’ latest immersive haunted house experience.
