Black Mandala Films has unveiled the first look at their latest horror feature, 1978, helmed by the acclaimed directing duo Luciano and Nicolás Onetti, known for their work on ABRAKADABRA and WHAT THE WATERS LEFT BEHIND.

1978 premiered its work-in-progress (WIP) version at the prestigious Marché du Film during the Blood Window Showcase at the Cannes Film Festival. The film is set to embark on an international festival circuit this October, with highly anticipated announcements to follow.

Set against the backdrop of the World Cup final between Argentina and Holland during a time of brutal military dictatorship, 1978 plunges audiences into a harrowing narrative. A group of torturers, serving the oppressive regime, force their way into a home, abducting a group of young individuals. What begins as a ruthless interrogation swiftly descends into nightmarish chaos when the captors realize they have taken the wrong people. Their victims are part of a dark cult, driven by an ominous supernatural force, turning the clandestine detention center into an unholy battleground.

The film cast includes Agustín Pardella (Society of the Snow – Oscar-nominated), Carlos Portaluppi (Argentina 1985 – Oscar-nominated), and Mario Alarcón (The Secret in Their Eyes, Oscar winner). They are joined by Agustin Olcese (What the Waters Left Behind), Jorge Lorenzo (El Marginal), Santiago Ríos (Tumberos), Gustavo Bonfigli (Wild Tales), Paula Silva (Virus 32), and Gustavo Pardi (El Marginal).

With the Onetti brothers at the helm, supported by a screenplay co-written by Luciano Onetti, Nicolás Onetti, and Camilo Zaffora, 1978 promises to be a gripping exploration of horror, blending political tension with supernatural terror.
