Indie developer Not A Cat Studios has announced STARCULT. Night: Twisted Age, a dark fantasy visual novel that blends romance, mystery, and player-driven storytelling. Set in a world facing impending catastrophe, the game introduces a unique system centered on interpreting and manipulating emotions.
Players follow Silviya, a noblewoman from House Nebula, whose arranged marriage to Hans—the young head of the house—ends abruptly when he is murdered by an unknown creature shortly after their wedding. As Silviya calls upon a detective to investigate, the story raises a central question: who is the real monster?

At the core of the experience is the Emotion Palette, a gameplay mechanic that allows players to read the true emotions and intentions of other characters. These insights directly impact relationships, dialogue choices, and the overall direction of the narrative. According to CEO and artist Liliia Sitailo, the system is designed to explore how emotions are expressed, interpreted, and used—intentionally or otherwise.

The game also introduces an Emotion Frenzy system, where failing to spend emotional resources can push Silviya toward instability, unlocking alternate story paths. Player decisions shape multiple outcomes, with endings ranging from Detective and Mystic to Nihilist and Ascended, along with hidden routes.

Additional features include relationship-building options across a wide spectrum—from romantic to toxic dynamics—and the ability to create and define a personal cult within the game world.
STARCULT. Night: Twisted Age is currently planned for release on PC via Steam, with additional platforms to be announced.
