There’s something crawling in the dark—and in Visions of Evil, it’s listening to your heartbeat.
From indie developer Sergei Pisteljic and his small but fearsome team at 3 Day Monk, Visions of Evil is shaping up to be one of the most anxiety-ridden entries in the asymmetric horror genre. A 4v1 multiplayer experience where players are pushed to their physical and psychological limits, this title asks a chilling question: Can you survive the dark when your own body betrays you?
Players take on the role of either Purgers—survivors tasked with performing rituals and maintaining power in a flickering hellscape—or the monster, a deadly creature with procedurally generated skills that evolve with each match. For the Purgers, surviving is more than just running and hiding. They’ll need to manage a dynamic lighting and power grid, uncover ancient ritual sites, and eventually—if they last long enough—earn the right to fight back with powerful weapons unlocked through ritual success.
Where Visions of Evil separates itself is in its haunting pulse-based health system. Traditional health bars are gone. Instead, players must monitor the pace of their pulse, which rises with every injury and every jolt of terror. Panic too much, and you’re an easy target. It’s a subtle mechanic that ramps up tension from moment one—and never lets go.
There’s a lot more under the hood, including:
- A deck-building card system for survivors, letting players build out their loadouts and strategies with each match.Procedural monster skill trees, meaning the killer evolves each session—just like the fear.
- A deep item system featuring consumables, utility tools, and special gear that open new paths to victory—or brutal defeat.
- Replayability built into the game’s randomized rituals, perks, and environmental factors.
With its haunting aesthetic, layered systems, and a fresh spin on asymmetric multiplayer, Visions of Evil feels less like another entry in the 4v1 horror space and more like a panic attack wrapped in pixels—and we mean that as the highest compliment.
