Indie studio Can of Worms has announced SORE CRATEBREAKER, a first-person incremental horror game headed to Steam in 2027, with a press preview build already in circulation.
The premise is simple and a little unsettling. Players need to earn $1,000,000, and all they have is a hammer and an ever-growing pile of crates. Smash them open to see what’s inside, some empty and some stuffed with cash, then sell the hundreds of strange items you find. Upgrades and machines that do the smashing for you keep the numbers climbing, but the game warns players to avoid staring into the darkness for too long. Press materials tease masks watching from the shadows as the pile grows.
SORE CRATEBREAKER blends the compulsive loop of an idle clicker with first-person horror atmosphere, a pairing that lets the dread build slowly while the satisfying crunch of breaking crates keeps you playing. The game is developed and published by Can of Worms for Windows via Steam, and the studio describes it as a work in progress, so details may change before launch.
