Universal Pictures and Blumhouse return audiences to the world of The Black Phone with Black Phone 2, opening exclusively in theaters on October 17.

Set four years after the events of the original film, the sequel follows Finn (Mason Thames), now 17, still grappling with life after surviving his abduction by The Grabber (Ethan Hawke). When his younger sister Gwen (Madeleine McGraw) begins receiving calls in her dreams through the black phone, she witnesses visions of three boys being hunted at a winter camp called Alpine Lake.

Ethan Hawke reprises his role as The Grabber, whose presence continues from beyond the grave, targeting Gwen as he seeks vengeance. Gwen and Finn are drawn to Alpine Lake during a storm, where they uncover disturbing connections between The Grabber and their own family’s past.

The film is written by returning collaborators Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, based on characters created by Joe Hill. Derrickson also directs, reuniting with producer Jason Blum. Executive producers include Ryan Turek, Adam Hendricks, Daniel Bekerman, and Jason Blumenfeld.

The cast expands with Demián Bichir (The Nun, A Better Life) as the camp supervisor, Arianna Rivas (A Working Man) as his niece, Miguel Mora (The Black Phone) as the brother of one of The Grabber’s victims, and Jeremy Davies reprising his role as Finn and Gwen’s father, Terrence. Maev Beaty (Beau is Afraid) and Graham Abbey (Under the Banner of Heaven) also join the ensemble.
