AWA Studios
is back again with another new series announcement! Devil’s Highway, a new crime series from Benjamin Percy (Wolverine) and Brent Schoonover (Batman ‘66) is set to debut July 1st. The series is billed as a thriller and will certainly be a hit with true crime and serial killer fans, but some of the art has an occult vibe that might just hook dedicated horror fans as well.
From AWA Studios: A young woman with a dark family secret embarks on a quest to hunt down the serial killer that brutally murdered her father – only to discover he is just one piece of a national network of evil that snakes across the country and hides in plain sight. To catch the devil she must first embrace the darkness within.
Along with the announcement comes a trailer for Devil’s Highway, which you can check out here. It shows off the moody, bleak tone of the series pretty well and gives us a lot of sample art– Brent Schoonover is really killing it with the atmosphere in the illustrations. The rainy, dreary feeling of the art compliments the subject matter perfectly.
The idea of a network of trucker serial killers is really fresh and seems like a premise that can be iterated and expanded upon easily, plus the snake/ouroboros imagery leads me to believe that there’s some sort of darker mystery to be discovered. Who are these killers, how did they establish this group, and what (if anything) is their endgame? I guess we’ll have to read along to find out. Devil’s Highway #1 is slated for release on July 1st, but in the meantime check out this teaser art released by AWA:
