The Mexican psychological horror feature Sacrificios, written by Mauricio Chernovetzky and Alexander Ioshpe and directed by Chernovetzky, will make its world premiere at the 32nd Annual Austin Film Festival on October 25, 2025, followed by a second screening on October 27. Presented by Balthus Films, the film delves into grief, faith, and the desperate measures taken to undo loss.

Starring Jorge A. Jimenez, Siddhartha Tonalli, Frida Astrid, Noé Hernandez, and Costanza Andrade, Sacrificios follows Juan, a father consumed by sorrow after the death of his young son. In a moment of despair, Juan ventures into the open sea and miraculously rescues his child from the waves—but this apparent miracle demands a harrowing cost: his own blood.

Writer/director Mauricio Chernovetzky and writer Alexander Ioshpe will attend both screenings, joined by lead actor Jorge A. Jimenez, actress Frida Astrid, production designer Adelle Achar, and producer Ernesto Martínez Arévalo. Composer Jason Carmer, who created the film’s score, will also be in attendance.

Chernovetzky describes Sacrificios as a deeply personal work inspired by his father: “As I became increasingly aware of all the sacrifices he’s made for my brother and me, I asked myself: Is there a limit to how much someone would sacrifice? This film is my response to that question—a journey into the unconscious shaped by grief and love.”

Produced by Ernesto Martínez Arévalo, Jessica Villegas Lattuada, Mauricio Chernovetzky, and Alexander Ioshpe, with Jairo Sifuentes serving as co-producer, Sacrificios represents a major step in Balthus Films’ continued exploration of emotionally charged genre storytelling.
