HorrorBuzz has an exclusive first look at a new clip from the upcoming documentary The Thing Expanded. Titled “Split Face,” the segment offers a glimpse into the extensive behind-the-scenes exploration of John Carpenter’s 1982 film The Thing.

“Split Face” - THE THING EXPANDED

The Thing Expanded is the latest documentary project from CREATORVC, the team behind In Search of Darkness and the Rondo Award–winning Aliens Expanded. Directed by Ian Nathan and produced by Robin Block, David Weiner, and Josh Weiss, the film examines the legacy and creation of Carpenter’s influential horror classic through a wide range of interviews and archival material.

One of the documentary’s key highlights is a newly recorded interview with Kurt Russell, who reflects on portraying helicopter pilot R.J. MacReady in the original film. Russell appears alongside other surviving cast members including Keith David, Thomas G. Waites, David Clennon, Joel Polis, Richard Masur, and Peter Maloney.

The documentary also features more than thirty interviews with filmmakers, crew members, and industry figures connected to the film and its influence. Participants include director John Carpenter, cinematographer Dean Cundey, editor Todd C. Ramsay, producers Stuart Cohen and Larry Franco, as well as members of Rob Bottin’s special makeup effects team. Additional commentary comes from filmmakers and genre voices including Frank Darabont, Guillermo del Toro, Issa López, Greg Nicotero, Eli Roth, and Mick Garris.
