Among the more useful presentations at IAAPA was Big Frights, Small Sites: Making the Most of Limited Space and Budget. Presented by Amy Cannon and Robbie Eicher of RWS Global, this discussion focused on smaller attractions and venues that face smaller space or budgets. Because let’s face it. Not everyone can be a Knott’s Scary Farm or a Halloween Horror Nights.

Some of the budget-friendly suggestions from Cannon and Eicher focused on the tried and true method of the theatre, never throw anything away. Instead, reuse and repurpose pieces through the years. Try sticking with a more “do it yourself” method if possible and create your own pieces with what you have. Bottom line is to stay creative and use your imagination.

It was also suggested that smaller venues should prioritize experiences. Create one memorable experience as opposed to a bunch of forgettable scenes. Don’t focus on filling every square foot of your venue. Create plenty of photo ops to leverage social media. Additionally, Cannon and Eicher recommended reaching out to partner with local vendors for any resources including costumes, candy, or props.

Overall Big Frights, Small Sites: Making the Most of Limited Space and Budget was a beginner’s discussion on how to stretch your budget and still create something that will make an impact and leave your guests smiling.
