Nicholas Doan, creator of the award-winning Monster Elementary graphic novels, has announced that his first published comic, Pray for Death, is officially coming to print for the first time in a deluxe hardcover edition. The Kickstarter campaign will go live on September 20, 2025, with pre-launch details already available through Broken Oar Comics.

Originally debuting as the first user-submitted contest winner for DC’s Zuda Comics imprint, Pray for Death is an 84-page thriller illustrated by acclaimed artist Daniele Serra (Hellboy, Dylan Dog). The story follows Detective Jenkins, a results-driven investigator alienated from her peers, as she hunts a killer who uses religious imagery in his crimes. Along the way, she encounters a mysterious boy who refuses to speak, forcing her to protect him while unraveling his connection to the case.

The hardcover release will feature Serra’s atmospheric artwork in oversized format with a newly designed cover. Doan noted that it has always been his goal to see the comic printed on high-quality paper, giving the art the presentation it deserves.

Doan, who has also created The Kid and The Ripper and Misfit Island, has successfully funded multiple Kickstarter campaigns in the past. He credits the platform with connecting him directly to readers eager for more independent horror and thriller stories.
