Vinegar Syndrome has announced the relaunch of its publishing division under the new name VS Press, building on the foundation of its former imprint, Vinegar Syndrome Publishing, which closed in 2024. The revamped initiative extends the company’s commitment to physical media through a growing catalog of print projects, including zines, books, and screen-printed posters.

VS Press debuted its first release in May with VINEGAR ZINE-DROME #1, a perfect-bound zine showcasing new writing and artwork. The label also reintroduced the novelizations of Rambo: First Blood Part II and Rambo III, in collaboration with author David Morrell.

Kicking off August, VS Press will publish The Basement Tapes, a photo-rich book curated by the San Francisco-based Basement VHS collective. Focused on b-budget horror, science fiction, and obscure VHS titles, the publication offers a curated dive into the world of analog ephemera. Mitsu Okubu and Luca Antonucci of Basement VHS describe the project as “a love letter to these forgotten slabs,” combining images from their collection with personal reflections and snapshots from their studio.

Also arriving in August is the launch of This Is Cinématographe: A Journal of American Cinema, a quarterly journal featuring critical writing centered on American film, echoing the editorial vision of the Cinématographe sub-label from Vinegar Syndrome’s home video line. Curator Justin LaLiberty emphasized the natural fit of expanding into publishing: “It allows us the opportunity to shine a light on people and films we admire that we may not otherwise get a chance to.”

Plans for the future of VS Press include the release of another periodical later in 2025 and a slate of new book titles beginning in 2026. Review copies of current publications are available for members of the press upon request.
